The sweet perfume of Nicotiana (tobacco) and the gentle rhythm of their flowers daily opening and closing were calming and meditative. Their seasonality somehow contrasted with the more enduring aspects of Mallorca's coastal pines and misty distant cliffs. It all made me think of the jewel-like prayer book paintings in the medieval Books of Hours which were often part of people's daily devotions.
