Whilst silverpoint is suitable for many high-key subjects, watercolors are the perfect medium for the Southeast. The moisture-laden air, golden space and brilliance of colors along Georgia's coast seem to mesh easily with watercolor's fluidity and luminosity. In similar fashion, the extraordinary light of the Mediterranean, my other home region, renders flowers, landscapes or cityscapes dramatically intense in color. Again, watercolor is an ideal medium to depict this world.
Demanding, unpredictable but ever-fascinating to use, watercolors have an additional attraction for me. There is a long and illustrious history of wonderful British watercolorists like Constable, Cozens, Bonnington, Samuel Palmer or J.M.W. Turner. Such a heritage deepens my respect for watercolor painting.
