This is the first of a series of drawings I did, based on a composition for a string quartet by the Finnish composer, Kaija Saariaho. The music evokes "those departed" and remembered in evolving fashion by the people remaining. My drawings address the evolution we can experience in the world between reality and abstraction. This drawing evoked the river of life, with our hopes (almond blossoms) floating on it, but coming up against barriers that were obstacles we have to surmount.
